It is a great pleasure to host our second International Workshop on organized by the Engineering Center for Care of Earth (ECCE) at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC in collaboration with Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy. This will take place on April 17th in the The Pryzbyla Center Great Room A.
The issue of Caring for the Earth is something that we need to be proactive about and we need everyone involved in this issue; not just prominent scientists, engineers and leaders who you will meet at our workshop. It is a matter that affects us all. It is our responsibility as our tradition is ethical and responsible thinking to generate solutions for the well being of humanity. We are guided by the Holy Father Francis’ Laudato Si as we take on this challenge; “The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all.”
During an audience with the Italian National Committee for Biosecurity, Biotechnologies and Life Sciences.Pope Francis stresses that the responsible use of the "enormous and growing" power of science is a "fundamental cornerstone" of humankind's actions in promoting the development of plant, animal and human life...” he states “…You also are asked to foresee and prevent the negative consequences that can cause a distorted use of the knowledge and ability to manipulate life,"
We enthusiastically look forward to our conference and we hope that you will find the workshop energizing, invigorating and compelling to take action within your expertise and interests after our workshop. We will be concluding with a panel discussion for our future direction. Let this conference be the continuation of the myriad of seeds of knowledge and action, which helps motivate our humanity to maintain and keep our Earth growing and living for many generations to come.
Our workshop will have the following speakers:
