Overview

The career of an engineer will always have international dimensions and all places are now influenced by events and factors that transcend national or state boundaries. In the School of Engineering at The Catholic University of America we hope to prepare our students to adapt and engage with the world. We encourage all students to consider the offered opportunities, such as study abroad, so that they will become effective engineers and thrive in a global environment.

Study Abroad

The School of Engineering offers an exchange academic program with the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, United Kingdom, and other opportunities tailored toward engineering students in the United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland, Spain, France, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Egypt and others. For more information, please contact Dr. Jandro Abot at abot@cua.edu or the Office of the Dean of the School of Engineering at engineering@cua.edu.

Qualified engineering students are encouraged to participate in the exchange or study abroad program during their second semester of their junior year. In most cases, credits earned while studying overseas can be transferred to fulfill engineering degree requirements. Students in all engineering programs can participate in this opportunity but should discuss with their academic advisors and Dr. Abot about their desire to study abroad one year in advance to plan their schedules to accommodate their curriculum requirements.

Study abroad opportunities during the spring semester include the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, United Kigdom; the Polytechnic University of delle Marche (double Master of Science degrees) in Ancona, Italy; the eCampus University in Como, Italy; the Pontifical University Comillas in Madrid, Spain; the Chung Yuan Christian University in Taoyuan City, Taiwan; the National University of Ireland Galway, Ireland; the ESITC School of Civil Engineering in Caen, France; the University of Nottingham in England, United Kingdom; Sogang University in Seoul, Korea; American University in Cairo, Egypt; and Mahidol University in Chang Wat Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. During the summer, there are several opportunities including an introductory engineering program at the Oxford Summer Insitute, an entrepreneurship/industrial leadership programs at Chung Yuan Christian University, a digital manufacturing program at the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, Spain, a renewable energy program at the Catholic University of Lille in France and others.
