Probation

A graduate student whose cumulative GPA is less than 3.0 but greater than 2.7, or whose semester GPA is less than 2.5, is on academic probation for the following regular semester in which the student enrolls. The fall and spring semesters are considered as regular semesters, but summer sessions are not counted as regular semesters. For example, a student whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 but above 2.7 at the end of the spring semester, or whose semester GPA is below 2.5 for the spring semester, is on probation through the end of the following fall semester, even if the student takes courses during the summer sessions that raise their cumulative GPA. If the student takes academic leave in the following fall semester but comes back to enroll in the next spring semester, he/she will be on probation through the end of the next spring semester. While on probation, a student cannot register for more than three courses and may be required to register for a reduced number of courses after consultation with their advisor.

Dismissal

A graduate student will be dismissed for any of the following reasons:
  1. At the end of any semester, a cumulative GPA less than 2.7.
  2. Two semesters on academic probation.
  3. Cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 for two semesters.
  4. Failing grade in two or more graduate level courses.
