On October 18th, 2022, Dr. Rebecca Kiriazes was awarded the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) Student STEM grant for $15,000 from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA). The grant provides funds to host the JSHS high school STEM research competition on campus, and establishes precedent for the University to continue hosting the symposium annually. JSHS is an annual science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) high school competition administered by the NSTA and supported by the Department of Defense (DoD).
On February 25, 2023, the Catholic University of America will host the Greater Washington, D.C. Regional JSHS on campus. Local high school students will have the opportunity to present their research before continuing at the national level. 50 high school students are expected to present their work during poster and oral presentation sessions. The event will also include a keynote STEM speaker, a tour of campus, and industry professionals and CUA’s faculty serving as judges for feedback. Further information and a link to register for the event can be found here.
