The 2022 World Automation Congress (WAC) which took place from October 10-13, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas was dedicated to Charles Nguyen, Ordinary Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Dean Emeritus. 

The honor acknowledged Nguyen “for extraordinarily outstanding contributions to research in intelligent and robotic systems and achievements in engineering education and leadership." 

Nguyen has published over 100 technical papers in the areas of robotics, space robots, large space structures, intelligent control, and medical robotics, co-edited three books and guest-edited 10 special issues in major journals. He served as Dean of the School of Engineering of the Catholic University of America for 4 consecutive terms totaling 16 years. He is a fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and life senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 

In addition, Professor Nguyen received a Medal of Honor from WAC at the above congress for his contributions to this organization in founding the official journal of WAC, the International Journal of Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing (AutoSoft) and serving as its Editor-in-Chief for 15 years. He currently serves as the chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of AutoSoft.

Recognizing Nguyen for his leadership, WAC elected Nguyen as General Chair of WAC starting November 2022. Nguyen is currently organizing the next congress WAC 2024 that will take place in Danang, Vietnam.

WAC is an international non-profit technical meeting dedicated to the dissemination of latest information among all nations of the world. Its five “tracks” include robotics, manufacturing and systems engineering, intelligent automation and control, soft computing (computational intelligence), and multimedia/image processing/biomedical engineering.
