Thanks to a generous pledge of $115,000 from Gerald and Patricia Hoefler, the Hoefler Endowed Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to undergraduate engineering and nursing students at The Catholic University of America.

The Hoefler Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to an individual student for the full duration of their education and recipients will be referred to as Hoefler Family Scholars. The award will alternate between the School of Engineering and the Conway School of Nursing every four years, with the first recipient set to be a nursing student this academic year. The first scholarship will be awarded to an engineering student during the 2028-2029 academic year.

The benefactors of this scholarship have deep roots at the university. Gerald (Gerry) Hoefler is a two-time alumnus of Catholic University, receiving his M.E.E. from the School of Engineering in 1967 and his J.D. from the Columbus School of Law in 1976. Patricia (Pat) Hoefler received her M.S.N. from the university in 1965. Gerry’s father was also a Catholic University graduate, and Pat and Gerry’s daughter Marie Hoefler received her B.S. in Architecture in 1989, making her a third-generation Cardinal.

Generosity such as this has a significant impact on the lives of students, helping them overcome financial obstacles and focus on achieving their career objectives and personal goals. The School of Engineering looks forward to seeing the impact this scholarship will have on our students and is deeply grateful to Gerry and Pat Hoefler for leaving this legacy for generations of future students.
