Biography

Annemarie Donachie, Catholic University '25, is a civil engineering and architecture dual-degree student from Cinnaminson, New Jersey. She accepted a job as an Associate Project Consultant at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger.

Briefly describe your new opportunity.

"I am going to be working in the Building Technology division, which focuses on the integrity of the exterior envelope of buildings. I will be assisting in investigations, design, and consulting regarding a building's ability to uphold the four barriers (thermal, water, vapor, and air) between the inside and outside of the building. This opportunity allows me to utilize what I have learned from both degrees, combining my general building and technical knowledge from architecture, with my problem-solving and analytical knowledge from civil engineering."

How did your School of Engineering and Catholic University education help you find this career path?

"I went to the university career fair to visit a friend and an alum of Catholic University's dual degree program, who suggested that I apply for an internship at SGH. This internship led me to discover how much I enjoyed the type of work that SGH does and caused me to pursue a full-time position there after my internship."

What activities were you involved in during undergrad?

"Current President of the Society of Women Engineers, Co-President of CUA Gaels Irish Dance Team, and Treasurer of the American Institute of Architecture Students. Member of ASCE (part of 2025 Sustainable Solutions competition team). Participated in Habitat for Humanity Spring Break trips 2022-2025."

What were some highlights of your time at The Catholic University of America?

"I've had so much fun participating in Habitat for Humanity spring break trips! Not only were they a great opportunity to spend my break doing service, but they also helped to apply some of what I've learned in the classroom to the real world."

What advice do you have for students during their own job search?

"Get involved on campus early! It helps you to connect with your peers and gives you the opportunity to talk to professionals. When it comes time for the job search, utilize the connections you've made."
