A student may take a course offered by the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area only for credit. The Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area consists of American University, The Catholic University of America, Gallaudet University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University, Marymount University, Montgomery College, National Intelligence University, National Defense University, Northern Virginia Community College, Prince George's Community College, Trinity Washington University, University of the District of Columbia, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and University of Maryland, College Park.
Students enrolled in an approved program leading to a degree, who need a course that is not offered at The Catholic University of America, and is required for the degree, may select from the combined offerings of all the consortium institutions the particular course which best meets their needs with proper approval. Only one course (or one course and its corresponding lab) per semester may be taken through the consortium (with the exception of students taking ROTC courses through the consortium). Students are strongly advised not to take a Consortium course during their final semester. The academic calendars of the Consortium institutions differ and final grades for courses taken through the Consortium may not be received by Catholic University until after the semester’s degree conferral date. If this occurs, the student's graduation will be postponed until the next official degree conferral date.
In order to register for a consortium course, the student must be currently registered at Catholic University. Tuition is paid to Catholic University at its rates. Special fees charged for specific courses at the visited institution must be paid by the student directly to that institution. Catholic University students must complete the Consortium Registration Form and Consortium Request Form: Statement of Need (both can be found on Enrollment Services' Consortium webpage) to enroll in courses through the Consortium. The student is responsible for obtaining the appropriate academic approvals and returning the forms to the Consortium Coordinator in the Office of Enrollment Services (W200 Fr. O'Connell Hall) prior to Catholic U’s add/drop deadline. Students should note that other Consortium institutions may have earlier add/drop deadlines. Late enrollment is subject to approval by the host institution.
