Dean's List

Students who earn a (fall or spring) semester Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher while carrying a full-time course load (at least 12 credits) will be placed on the dean’s list.

Academic Warning

A first-year student whose first full-time semester grade point average is below 2.0 will be on academic warning for one semester rather than on academic probation. A student on academic warning may be required by the academic dean to take a reduced course load during the time of academic warning. The status of academic warning may not be extended or repeated in consecutive semesters. For full information concerning good standing and academic warning, see the University policies.

Probation

A student whose cumulative GPA is less than 2.0 is on academic probation for the following regular semester. For example, a student whose cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of the Spring semester is on probation through the end of the following Fall semester, even if the student takes courses during the summer semester to raise their cumulative GPA. Likewise, a student whose cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of the Fall semester is on probation through the end of the following Spring semester.  While on probation, a student may register for no more than four courses and may not participate in extracurricular activities, e.g., student government or athletics. Students who are on probation should meet with their program chair or faculty advisor prior to or at the start of the next semester to discuss their plans for improving their academic performance, and to make modifications to their registration as appropriate.

Dismissal

Any of the following is grounds for academic dismissal:

  1. Failure to gain a 2.0 cumulative GPA after two semesters on academic probation.
  2. Failure in three courses in any given semester.
  3. At the end of any academic year, a cumulative GPA of less than 1.5.

A student who has been dismissed may apply for readmission after one full semester away from the University.
