Last week, School of Engineering student-athletes competed in the Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Christian Di Nicolantonio, a rising senior in the mechanical engineering program, placed first overall in the Men’s Outdoor Pole Vault, earning him a title as the 2024 Division III National Champion. His winning pole vault was 5.19m. He is the first individual national champion for Catholic University since 1991 and the first Track and Field All-American since 2004.

Lauren Cerda, a Class of 2024 graduate in the mechanical engineering program and dual-sport athlete (track and soccer), earned a spot as a 2024 Outdoor Second-Team All-American, placing 10th overall in the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:38.16. Cerda said, “...nationals was a great experience and a wonderful end to my athletic career at Catholic University; experiencing this environment and competing against the top track and field athletes in Division III was incredible.” She also said that, “it is still hard to believe that I am a Second-Team All-American in a sport that I only took up in December of my senior year!”

In addition, Javontae Fearwell, a rising senior in the mechanical engineering program and member of the Catholic University Men’s Track and Field team, won the 2024 Landmark Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award several weeks back. He earned this award through his excellent performances in the men’s 200m and 4x100m over the course of the season.

Congratulations to these student-athletes for their remarkable performances at this national competition and throughout the entire season. We applaud all Catholic University and School of Engineering student-athletes for their hard work, dedication, and contributions on and off the field.
