David Schneider, M.S. 2024, a recent alumnus in the data analytics graduate program, developed a mobile application that helps users navigate and explore Washington, D.C. using the public transportation systems. The service, called DMV Transit Tourism, is available online and on the Apple Store and helps individuals locate hotels, retail stores, restaurants, and bars that are all within close proximity to local public transportation systems, such the Metro, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) rail, and Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter rail.
Schneider started this project as a graduate student at the School of Engineering, specifically for his capstone project. Since graduating, he has further developed the application and improved its capabilities. The application is particularly useful for tourists who are unfamiliar with the city and need assistance locating all the business and services available along the transit systems. DMV Transit Tourism can make recommendations on where to go and what to see while visiting. The app is also helpful for residents and college students who rely on public transportation and would like to figure out which establishments can be easily accessed along its routes.
The app encourages people to discover all that the city has to offer and efficiently travel to explore different neighborhoods! Schneider looks forward to continuing to develop and improve the services, in order to help more people interact and enjoy the city and the rest of the metropolitan area.
