
Dr. Antani’s current research includes multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) for medicine particularly for challenging diseases toward reliable, reproducible, and interpretable prediction models with applications in disease screening, diagnostics, risk analysis, and treatment. Related research topics include characterizing data, the role of generative AI and synthetic data for both imaging, structured and unstructured text and their impact on prediction quality and overall machine learning model performance. He has extensive and broad expertise in various aspects of Computer Science and Engineering including machine learning, computer vision, pattern recognition, visual and cross-modal information retrieval, medical image processing, mHealth applications, video analysis, document image analysis, and computer graphics.
Dr. Antani is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Senior Member of the SPIE. His scientific contributions and research leadership have been recognized through several awards including three (3) NIH Director’s Awards in 2022, 2016, and 2012, respectively, and two NIH Awards of Merit in 2009 and 2013, respectively.
