The College of Engineering, Physics, and Computing of The Catholic University of America is pleased to announce that, effective July 1, 2026, J. Steven Brown, Ph.D., has been appointed Dean of the College of Engineering, Physics, and Computing. Bringing deep institutional knowledge and an unwavering commitment to students, faculty, and research, Dean Brown is well positioned to build on the College's recent momentum and lead it into its next chapter of growth.
Dean Brown served as Interim Dean over the past year, providing exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and strong engagement across the College.
"He has already strengthened the College's research profile, improved faculty resources, advanced important operational initiatives, and fostered greater collaboration across engineering, physics, and computing," said Executive Vice President and Provost Aaron Dominguez.
A member of the Catholic University community for more than 27 years, Dean Brown has demonstrated a distinguished record of academic leadership and research excellence. Before serving as Interim Dean, he was Senior Vice Provost for Academic Administration and Dean of Graduate Studies. His previous leadership roles also include Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Dean of the School of Engineering.
An MIT-trained engineer, Dean Brown is a nationally recognized scholar in thermodynamics and refrigeration technologies, a Fellow of ASHRAE, and the recipient of multiple teaching awards.
He brings to the deanship a clear vision for the College's future, informed by a deep commitment to the University's Catholic mission, decades of institutional leadership, and a dedication to advancing excellence in education, research, and innovation.
Looking ahead, Dean Brown is committed to strengthening the College's research enterprise, expanding partnerships across the University and beyond, fostering a vibrant academic community, and preparing students to become exceptional engineers, scientists, and computing professionals who lead with both technical excellence and integrity.
