The master of Science in Engineering Management degree is awarded upon meeting the following five requirements:
- Completion of Mandatory Core Management Courses (3 management foundation courses)
- CMGT 572 Organizational Theory and Behavior
- CMGT 573 Planning and Control of Organizations
- CMGT 505 Decision Analysis or CMGT 562 Engineering Risk Management
And
- Completion of Mandatory Core Track Courses:
- Engineering Management and Organization - Developed to provide a graduate level foundation for the practice of managing engineering organizations. It is appropriate for those that will assume leadership positions in technically oriented organizations.
- CMGT 510 Information Systems for Managers or CMGT 570 Project Management
- CMGT 575 Introduction to Systems Analysis
- CMGT 547 Managerial Engineering Economics

- Project and Systems Engineering Management - Developed to provide a graduate level foundation for the practice of managing projects associated with development and life cycle management of a product. It is appropriate for Project Managers and System Engineers in management roles or those that will be in those positions.

- CUA engineering courses can be viewed on the CUA engineering website. Schedule of graduate courses can be found at the CUA School of Engineering graduate schedule.
- Up to 6 credits of accredited graduate level courses can be accepted from various sources, if they are appropriate to the students needs as determined by the Program Director. Examples of accepted credit includes government courses (such as the Navy Nuclear Power School and some DAU 300 level courses,) courses from other CUA Schools (such as an international student taking an International Economics course,) and other university's courses (such as taking a GWU Knowledge Management course.) DAU students may transfer up to 9 credits due to the partnership agreement between DAU and the School of Engineering.
- Engineering Management Program Electives:
- Satisfaction of all other formal or academic requirements provided in the current CUA Announcements - Graduate Studies course catalogue under the School of Engineering and Engineering Management Program sections.
- All M.S. candidates for graduation must have earned at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in courses leading to the degree.
Additional Information
- All CMGT courses are 3 credit hour.
- Graduates of the Defense Systems Management College at Fort Belvoir (1985 or later) Program Management Course (PMC or APMC) are exempt from three of the management courses: CMGT 573 Planning and Control of Organizations, CMGT 570 Project Management, and an elective.
- As listed in the CUA Announcements - Graduate Studies, a maximum of six (6) credit hours of studies may be transferred from another institution. No course with a grade of less than B (3.0) is transferable. Grades earned in transferred courses are not included in computing the required GPA of 3.0. Up to 9 credit hours may be transferred from the Defense Acquisition University. Specific restrictions are addressed on the DAU Partnership page.
- Course substitutes may be appropriate depending on the student's educational objectives.
All Engineering Management Program courses are offered on campus in Washington, DC, online and also off-campus in Alexandria, Virginia.
