Stem Outreach

Middle School

We have partnered with local schools in the District of Columbia.  RERC staff will visit schools and provide experiential learning to raise awareness of motor and sensory challenges faced by individuals with central nervous system injury. Additional learning modules will bring engineering techniques into the classrooms. Contact us if you would like us to visit your school!

High School

We will assist the CUA New Frontiers summer camp targeted at high school juniors and seniors.  Students will have the chance to learn about rehabilitation engineering and be exposed to all of the technology involved with the RERC-DC.  We hope the experience will inspire the next generation of rehab engineers.

Conference Workshops

We will organize international level workshops and symposia attended by clinicians, therapists, and engineers. These conference workshops are instrumental to training clinicians on the role of technology in rehabilitation, and to acquire feedback from engineers working in related areas.  Our first workshop is June 24th at RehabWeek in Toronto, Canada.

State of Science Meeting

In year 5, we will host a State of the Science meeting in Washington DC. Attendees for this meeting will include not only scientists and engineers working in the field of rehabilitation engineering, but also industry representatives, healthcare professionals, consumer advocacy groups and consumers. The meeting will include plenary talks and poster sessions, open forums where healthcare professionals and consumers can ask questions and provide feedback, and time for attendees to interact in hopes of establishing new collaborations.
