The Engineering Management Professional Certificates are awarded upon achieving the following:

1. Complete the five courses required for the certificate:

  • Engineering Management Professional Certificate

    Designed to provide specialized graduate-level education and to further professional continuing education for those persons who will assume major administrative positions in industry or government organizations. This certificate requires completion of five courses:

    - CMGT 562 Engineering Risk Management or CMGT 505 Decision Analysis
    - CMGT 547 Managerial Engineering Economics
    - CMGT 573 Planning and Control of Organizations
    - CMGT 580 Introduction to Systems Engineering Management
    - CMGT 572 Organizational Theory and Behavior

  • Program Management Professional Certificate

    Designed to provide specialized graduate-level education and to further professional continuing education or certification (beyond or prior to Project Management Institute Certification) for those who will act as Program or Product Managers in industry and Government. This certificate requires completion of five courses:

    - CMGT 562 Engineering Risk Management or CMGT 505 Decision Analysis
    - CMGT 547 Managerial Engineering Economics
    - CMGT 570 Project Management
    - CMGT 580 Introduction to Systems Engineering Management
    - CMGT 572 Organizational Theory and Behavior

  • Systems Engineering Professional Certificate

    Designed to provide specialized graduate-level education and to further professional continuing education or certification (beyond or prior to International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) certification) for those persons who will act as the technical/ systems engineering lead in major programs, organizations or functions in industry or Government. This certificate requires completion of these five courses:

    - CMGT 580 Introduction to Systems Engineering Management
    - CMGT 575 Introduction to Systems Analysis or CMGT 515 Software Engineering
    - CMGT 572 Organizational Theory and Behavior
    - CMGT 562 Engineering Risk Management
    - CMGT 570 Project Management

  • Management of Information Technology Professional Certificate

    Designed to provide specialized graduate-level education and to further professional continuing education or certification for those persons who will be responsible for management of information technology resources in industry and Government. This certificate requires completion of these five courses:

    - CMGT 572 Organizational Theory and Behavior
    - CMGT 580 Introduction to Systems Engineering Management
    - CMGT 510 Information Systems for Managers
    - CMGT 515 Software Engineering Management
    - CMGT 562 Engineering Risk Management

2. Satisfaction of all other formal or academic requirements provided in the current CUA Announcements - Graduate Studies course catalogue under the School of Engineering, Engineering Management Program section.

3. A grade of C or better in all CUA courses that are counted toward certificate requirements.

4. Only 1 certifcate from the Engineering Management Program is allowed per student.  Certificates are issued electronically.

Additional Information

  • All CMGT courses are 3 credit hour.
  • A maximum of two courses (6) credit hours of studies may be transferred from another institution. No course with a grade of less than B (3.0) is transferable.
  • Course substitutes may be appropriate depending on the student's educational objectives.

All Engineering Management Program courses are offered on campus, online and off-campus in Alexandria, VA dependent on sufficient enrollment.
