Biography

Bradford Wood, Catholic University '24, is a Civil Engineering student from Potomac, Maryland. He has accepted a job as a project engineer at Tuckman-Barbee Construction Company.

Briefly describe your new opportunity.

"I will be a project engineer at Tuckman-Barbee, which is a construction group in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. They have done work for numerous government agencies, local government projects, and universities in the region."

How did your School of Engineering and Catholic University education help you find this career path?

"The senior seminar class was instrumental in helping me through the job search and interview process. Furthermore, through talking with classmates that had graduated before meparticularly when they were doing their own job searchI was able to get an idea of how to approach this process and gain some valuable insight."

What activities were you involved in during undergrad?

"I was a member of the Catholic University football team for 4 years."

What were some highlights of your time at The Catholic University of America?

Participating in construction site visits with Dr. Gunnar Lucko was a highlight for me. Also, socializing, sharing jokes, and developing a bond with my classmates was also another highlight."

What advice do you have for students during their own job search?

"Pay attention in Senior Seminar class. The only reason I have my job right now is because I went to a mandatory career fair and ran into a great company that ended up being an excellent fit. Take advantage of all the resources that Dr. Richard Thompson offers as well, if you end up taking a course with him. I would also say talk to other students who have already graduated, or if you are an underclassman, make friends with some older students and ask them questions about how they are approaching their job search. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to befriend older construction management students through the football team, so I had some idea of what to expect when I was doing my own job search."
