Amir Sharifi, Ph.D., is a dedicated environmental scientist and regulator with extensive experience in advancing water quality and environmental protection initiatives. Since 2024, he has served as a Civil Engineer at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where he regulates hydropower dams to ensure environmental compliance and public safety. Previously, as an Environmental Scientist with the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), he led critical projects focused on microbial source tracking, pollutant load reduction, and water quality modeling in support of the Clean Water Act. Dr. Sharifi has a strong publication record and has worked closely with federal agencies such as EPA, USGS, and USDA. He served as a mayoral appointee to the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, contributing to regional climate resilience and watershed management initiatives concerning the Chesapeake bay.
