The goal of the educational programs in civil engineering is to produce graduates who are schooled in fundamentals and capable of doing advanced engineering work. To this end, programs are offered in the Department of Civil Engineering which are professional in nature and lead to the Certificate Program, the Master of Science (M.S.) with a coursework-only option or a thesis-option, and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Major areas are construction engineering and management, environmental engineering and water resource management, solid mechanics, structural engineering, transportation engineering, civil engineering materials, and systems engineering. The available courses include laboratory studies, applied mathematics, engineering analysis, engineering design, and a variety of introductory and advanced level courses in various areas of applied science and engineering management.
