    Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence (Larry) Tobin serves as an Operations Research and Systems Analysis (ORSA) Training Analyst in the Headquarters of the U.S. Army (HQDA), Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, Program Analysis and Evaluation Division at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. His current duties involve independent analysis and oversight of $28 billion dollars of resources used to support Training the United States Army.

    He was educated and trained as an Operations Research and Systems Analysis Officer (ORSA) and as a Chemical Officer. He is in his 19th year of Active Duty service in the United States Army, and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He previously served in the Deputy Chief of Staff, HQDA G-3/5/7 (Operations and Plans) as a resources integrator and Deputy Chief of Staff, HQDA G-1 (Personnel) as an ORSA Enlisted Accessions Analyst. He has been a Company Commander in United States Army Recruiting Command and served as both a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer with the 89th Chemical Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment while in Iraq from November of 2007 until February of 2009.

    Larry Tobin is married with three children and lives in Virginia.

    Major Larry Tobin participated in the Army Operations Research Symposium in 2015 at Ft. Belvoir, VA, presenting a study titled “Contract to First Term Attrition”; a discrete event simulation in ARENA that modeled the lifecycle of Active Army accessions from the moment of contract until three years (first term) after they ship to basic training. The model accounted for over 30 measurable attributes and compared attrition across multiple dimensions in order to drive policy decisions for the Directorate of Military Personnel and Manpower (DMPM), Deputy Chief of Staff, HQDA G-1.
